Thin names tempt urgency. A single wide bar can look like a breakout when it is simply a gap in participation.
Before promoting a thin name from watch to act, write the average daily range for the past ten sessions and compare today’s bar to that range. If the bar is large but participation is still below your personal floor, the chart stays in watch with a note: needs second-day confirmation.
In workshops we use printed volume bands — horizontal strips where traders shade relative participation. The shading makes comparison honest across symbols with different scales.
Also note the time of day the volume printed. Bangkok morning liquidity differs from late US overlap. A spike at an illiquid hour is a different fact than a spike into a known session open.
None of this replaces your own thresholds. The point is to put the facts on the sheet so Monday’s self is not arguing with Friday’s memory.
